Message from President

The Bangalore Book Sellers and Publishers Association was established in January 1988. The founder members to the association are M/s. Gangaram Book Bureau, Higginbothams, UBS Publishers & Distributors Pvt. Ltd, M/s. Satish Agencies. The present membership of the association is 110. The association has been conducting Bangalore Book Festival every year for last 6 years. Apart from Book festival, association has been organizing seminars on Book Piracy, Book Publishing, and Book Marketing etc. Our association took initiative to deal with sales tax imposed on books by Government of Karnataka. With the support of our members along with Karnataka Book Sellers

& Publishers Association the Government of Karnataka was forced to backtrack and withdraw sales tax on books. Association has also planned to support members for the cause of education and medical assistance on the bases of merit of the case. Association has created among the members’ spirit of mutual help and best of understanding among the members. Most of the libraries insist purchases from the members of the association for the trust, which they impose on our members. BBPA is also representing in Selection of books by the Karnataka Govt. for bulk purchase.

To promote and protect the interest of members viz. Authors, Booksellers, Book Wholesellers and Book Publishers engaged in the business of book publishing and marketing

To conduct Bangalore Book Festival every year in Bangalore and also co-operate and support associations in other towns.

To create, foster and develop the spirit of mutual help, fellowship and best of understanding among the members.

To improve the knowledge of members by organizing seminar on Book marketing, book publishing, book promotion and self-improvement.

WELCOME! to the BBPA’S official website. In keeping pace with the present advancement in the information system, the website has been so launched as to pass on the most important information to one & all in the shortest possible time.

Books are our best friends for lives as we all know and so living with them, making them a part of us is the real motto of Bangalore Book Sellers & Publishers Association.

As a bookseller & a publisher and more so for being a part of the association, I am very happy to see this website being officially open to one & all.

Our website comprehensively shows about our numerous activities like organizing book festivals, conducting anti – piracy programs, steps towards promoting literacy and all other supports to the book publishing/ selling industry, We cordially invite you to become member with a life subscription of Rs. 5,000/-. By becoming a member you will be a part of all our activities, which is required for our Industry / society.

Apart from these, in our last AGM’08 (Annual General Body Meeting 2008), we decided to support the needy people of our

industry by giving education and health support to the needy. We feel this noble cause should be continued and we are thinking of collecting a separate fund for the same

Dear Booklovers,

Welcome to the official website of BANGALORE BOOKSELLERS & PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION. Keeping phase with the changing times and advancement of technology, communication is very easy and instant. To reach out to more readers and cultivate the book reading habit, BBPA is presenting website for the use of entire book community. We will update the information from time to time on our website, which will be useful for the members of the trade.

As many of you are aware BBPA has embarked on so many activities to uplift the trade like safeguarding industry interest whenever government imposes taxes etc., conducting

Bangalore Book Festival on a grand scale continuously from 2003 onwards, organizing seminars on book Publishing, conducting raids on booksellers who are selling pirated books with the help of police etc., Another important aspect of Bangalore Book Festival is organizing cultural activities during BBF as book industry and cultural activities go hand in hand. By this our Association wants to support the local artistes as part of our mission. Great artists like Shir Shimoga Subbanna, Shri Ashwath, Shri Vidyabhushan and Hamsalekha’s troupe have performed on this stage. Entertaining and educating plays like ALL THE BEST and MYSORE MALLIGE have been staged in this prestigious platform. BBPA has organized many Book Release functions and conversation with media personalities as part of BANGALORE BOOK FESTIVAL.

The next edition of BANGALORE BOOK FESTIVAL 2009 is scheduled from November 06, 2009 to November 15, 2009 at Palace Grounds. The necessary brochure and application forms can be seen on this website.

I request all booklovers, trade members etc., to make use of this website and give their valuable suggestion to serve the book community better.
